MOBI-KIDS

The international study MOBI-KIDS aims to evaluate the potential risk of brain tumors in children and adolescents related to exposure to electromagnetic fields generated by mobile phones and other sources of exposure in their environment.

Methods

Mobi-Kids is an international hospital-based case-control study involving 14 countries (Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, South Korea, New Zealand, Spain). In France, the study took place in 16 departments from 2011 to 2014.

  • Inclusions

Cases are patients presenting with a primary brain tumor, benign or malignant, aged 10 to 24 years old.

The controls are patients who underwent appendectomy, matched to the cases based on age, sex, and department of residence.

  • Data collection

The data was collected through face-to-face interviews using a detailed questionnaire, covering socio-demographic factors, successive places of residence, various exposures to environmental factors including mobile phone usage. On a 20% sample of cases and controls, the self-reported data on mobile phone exposure time was compared with records from their mobile phone operators.
